About Me

Hello friends! I’m Liz, the artist and illustrator behind Langley & Co. I wanted to introduce myself and let you know a little about the woman who runs this business. I’m a married mom of two human kids and a whole lot of animals (two dogs, two cats, two rabbits, three parakeets and fifteen chickens, at last count) and we live in San Diego, CA. I’ve loved creating things since I was very young and would write and illustrate little books. I had businesses, too- a letter-writing business was one of my favorites, and I also used to spend my free time decorating other people’s houses in my imagination. I guess it kind of makes sense that I would grow up to make art and stationery, especially because I love connecting people, and what better way to do it than to help them communicate through a personal note or fun gift?

In fact, I majored in communications at NYU with a specialty in graphic design. I really wanted to be an art major, but figured the communications major would make me more employable. Ha! If only I knew then what I know now, which is that my “career path” would be completely non-traditional! I think degrees don’t really matter much if you don’t need them for a specific field and you should just do what you love. In any case, I took lots of painting classes in addition to my other course work. But I didn’t have a clear idea of what I wanted to do. While I was in school, I worked at a burrito shop, in clothing stores, bars, at a movie production company, dabbled in modeling and finally left NYC for London a year after graduating. I followed my now-husband there and we stayed in the UK for 3 years, where I eventually took on a sales role. I liked sales, and was decently good at it, so when we decided to move back to California, I got a job in ad sales. After a while though, I was disillusioned by my horrible boss and decided to go back to school for an interior design certification. Once I finished that, I started working selling furniture and window treatments until I got pregnant with my son. It didn’t make financial sense for me to continue working and pay for daycare, and I missed my creative outlet, so in late 2008 I began selling my first art prints on Etsy.

Fast forward a few years…our two kids are a bit older and in school, and I’m building my line and making art more than ever, in addition to renovating and decorating our ranch house by the beach. I’d love to share a bit about my process, inspirations and products here on this blog, along with maybe some art & business advice if you all are up for it. Welcome! I’d love to meet you, and you can find me on instagram (mostly) @lizlangley.
